MIT Enterprise Forum Webcast

The TIC is a viewing site for the MIT Enterprise Forum webcast entitled "Lab to Market: Success is Not Final, Failure is Not Fatal." It will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 from 3:15 to 5:00 pm in the TIC Conference Room, #208. The panel will share stories of their years of real-world wisdom in leading teams to cutting edge breakthroughs and frustrating dead ends and what makes labs such a powerful and challenging work environment.     European Union Trade Specialist to Speak at the TIC

    Ms. Sylvia Mohr, Standards Specialist, U.S. Mission to the European Union, Brussels, Belgium, will give a presentation at the TIC on Thursday, July 22, 2010 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm in TIC 323. She will discuss the EU regulatory environment as it relates to product safety, how and when you must meet the CE standards, and market surveillance. Some of the points she will cover include: size and scope of the European Union today; a close look at EU requirements and standards; CE marking as well as WEEE, RoHS, REACH and ECO design; examples of conformity assessment with use of standards.     "Clean Energy Revolution" Webcast (MIT Enterprise Forum)

    The TIC has signed on as a viewing site for the MIT Enterprise Forum webcast entitled The Clean Energy Revolution, part of the NSTAR Clean Energy Forum.

    The Webcast covers issues like:

    What actions are needed to cause a paradigm shift and initiate a "clean energy revolution"?

    Who should be leading the charge:

    • entrepreneurs?
    • government incentives?
    • industry and the market?
    • universities?

    HCC's Center for Continuing Education is offering a course at USM-Hagerstown beginning 5/6/10 entitled "Power Tools for Small Business Success". For existing business owners, take away tools that will enable you to immediately put small business best practices into place. Gain help with real world problems taken directly from your business. Presented in workshop format with experienced instructors, you will be able to share your views and experiences with other class members and apply newly learned concepts. Each attendee will receive CEUs and a Certificate of Small Business Management. (No textbook required).

    First Monday of the Month
    Hagerstown Entrepreneur Meetup Group

    A network of local entrepreneures to share tips and problem solving techniques, get advice on business models, emerging technologies, marketing strategies, profitability or any other business issue. A general unstructured meeting will be scheduled for the first Monday evening of the month from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The meetings will not be held during the summer but will resume in the fall.

    There will be a SCORE Millennium small business seminar entitled "How to Really Start Your Own Business" offered in the TIC's new training room, TIC 323, beginning 4/1/10. Whether you plan to start a new small business or improve your existing business, this seminar brings to you experts on the topic. Presented by local "in-business" SCORE counselors and associates, you learn how to create a business plan, organize and finance your business, manage it efficiently, and select the best marketing strategies. A workbook is provided at no extra charge. Participants can register for the full seminar or individual sessions.
