The Technical Innovation Center (TIC) at Hagerstown Community College is a self sustaining economic development effort that fosters the growth of new and expanding businesses by providing access to advanced technologies, business development resources, and collaborative opportunities. An integral part of our mission is creating and retaining high-quality employment opportunities for our students and the quad-state community.

The TIC was constructed in 1994 with assistance from the Economic Development Administration, The Appalachian Regional Commission, and the Washington County Commissioners. The purpose of the facility was, and still is to promote the diversity of the economic base in Hagerstown and Washington County, Maryland. The TIC's focus is to promote the development of technology or manufacturing based businesses. The center does not limit entry only to start-up enterprises. The TIC will work with local economic development groups to provide facilities and support to local companies and new firms that are being recruited to the area.

The TIC and You, The Entrepreneur

As you begin your new enterprise, there will be many issues that you will need to address.

  • How will I create and execute my business and marketing plans?
  • Who can help me develop distribution channels and strategic partnerships?
  • How do I successfully present my business case to obtain financing?
  • How will I know that I my personnel policies will work to minimize potential problems?
  • How will I manage my projected growth? Who will be there for me if I need objective advice?

As an auxiliary enterprise of Hagerstown Community College we can help you access many college resources such as training, equipment and student workers. We secured funding that allowed us to provide over $15,000 in business assistance mini-grants to our clients. Our periodic business training seminars provide our entrepreneurs an opportunity to obtain new management insights from professional speakers as well as an opportunity to grow their networks. We also have MBA trained staff that are able to offer daily expert guidance with the issues entrepreneurs face. As a founding member of the Maryland Business Incubation Association, we can access resources from other incubators across the state. These are but a few of the many benefits our clients receive.
